Atwater's Wells Fargo Bank branch (3250 Glendale Blvd) has reportedly told community organizers "bah-humbug" on using their parking lot for this year's Tree Lighting Ceremony.
Since 1991 Atwater's 80-foot “Charlie Brown” redwood pine tree, located on the Glendale Blvd median at Brunswick Ave, has been decorated and lit to usher in the holiday season. The tree is lit annually in December as local families gather in the Wells Fargo parking lot to welcome Santa Claus, sip on hot chocolate, sing some carols and merrily mingle with their neighbors.
Wells Fargo's new branch manager, Ms. Carely Rojas, has been unable or unwilling to authorize the use of the bank's parking lot for this year’s event. Some community organizers believe that Ms. Rojas, new to the area, is unaware of the importance of this Atwater Village tradition and Wells Fargo's past generosity. Already, Atwater’s annual Pancake Breakfast, organized by the Lions Club, has gotten the boot and won’t return next year to the bank’s parking lot. Will the Tree Lighting Ceremony be next?!?!
Help save the Atwater Village Tree Lighting Ceremony! Email, call or visit the Wells Fargo branch and tell them how important this event is for our community. Ask them to support our neighborhood and allow the use of their parking lot for this community event.
